The role of venture capital funds in dissemination and development of innovation in Canada

A province-level account of Canadian venture-capital concentration and its co-movement with firm survival and patent activity. Documents the distribution; resists the causal claim. Reads as one half of the work the Foundation is funding into existence — the half that maps what is there before the half that asks why.

II. Forthcoming

What the next paper will need to do.

The first paper documents the geography of risk capital. The next should examine whether the institutions that bridge it — designated institutions, accelerators, lab-to-market hubs — actually move firms across the distribution, or whether they reinforce the concentrations that already hold. The Foundation is interested in the second question; it is the harder one to answer.
